In year 2009-10, the Section achieved several great achievements in the area of ICT professional
development. The Section had successfully organized the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2009 -- Best Professional
Development Award and the BCS Mentorship Programme for ICT students in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2009: Best Professional Development Award was successfully held by the
Section again, and fully supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, HKSAR Government. The Grand Award ceremony was held on 19 Jan 2010, officiated by The Honourable John C. Tsang, JP, Financial Secretary of HKSAR Government. Six companies and institutions were awarded in two category streams. These were Best Professional Development (Scheme) Award, and Best Professional Development (Products & Services) Award. The winner of the Best Professional Development Award was Information Systems Audit and Control Association China Hong Kong Chapter (ISACA), with the entry entitled "Certified Information System Auditor (CISA)".
The BCS Mentorship Programme 2009-10 was the second organized by BCS Hong Kong Section. We
received positive responses and comments from mentees and the ICT community. So we extended the scope
of the second mentorship programme. There were 115 mentees joining the ten-month programme, and we
were honored to have 48 senior executives in the ICT industry and chairmen of IT professional associations
join as mentors. The opening ceremony of the programme was held on 27 Nov 2009 at HKPC, with over
200 guests attending. We would very much appreciate having our members’ support with a helping hand
to develop this annual BCS mentorship programme which has benefited much from the support of BCS
Headquarters.
In the area of member services, the Section successfully organized many activities for members. These
included corporate visits to Satellite Remote Sensing Receiving Station at Chinese University of Hong Kong
(6 Feb, 2010), Hong Kong Observatory visit (13 March, 2010), GSL Factory visit on mainland China (17
April, 2010). BCS also exhibited at the ICT Expo 2010 and 2009 Conference on International Exchange of
Professionals (2009中國國際人才交流大會) at Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre.
also participated at, and supported over 20 ICT events and activities in the past year.
The Section successfully organized its Annual Dinner on 14 May 2010, with over 220 members and friends
attending. We were honored to have Mr. Nicholas Yang, Executive Vice-President of The HK Polytechnic
University as the Officiating Guest. Mr. Yang delivered a very interesting keynote speech entitled, "What
would be best for Hong Kong's ICT industry in the future?". We were also delighted to have Mr. Qing Yong,
Deputy Director-General, Department of Development Planning, Ministry of Science and Technology of the
People's Republic of China, as special guest. Other guests included officials from government departments,
and Liaison Office of the Central People' Government in HKSAR, prominent figures from professional bodies
and chambers of commerce, and leading IT notables from Hong Kong and China.
Finally, thanks to the devotion and effort of the Committee Members and the support of members of the
Section, we successfully organized many grand events for the members and the ICT industry in Hong Kong.
I take this opportunity to thank all who have supported us; and look forward to enjoying their continuing
support in future.
Yours sincerely,
Ricky Wan
