Visit to Hong Kong Air Traffic Control - Chek Lap Kok
The society will be organizing a visit to the control and the aerodrome tower of the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok as part of the continuing professional development program. This is an excellent opportunity for our members to see the complicated and yet advanced international airport in operation.
The arrangement is as follows:

APAQS 2000 Conference
BCS(HKS) is a supporting organization of APAQS 2000 Conference.
As Hong Kong has entered into a new era of Information Technology, developing good quality software has emerged to be a very important area that every IT professionals have to look at. The BCS(HKS) has co-sponsored the organisation of the First Asia-Pacific Conference on Quality Software (APAQS). This conference is organised by the Software Engineering Group of the University of Hong Kong and Software Technology Centre of Vocational Training Council. The conference will be held on October 30-31, 2000. Members of the BCS(HKS) are entitled to join the conference at a reduced rate.

Annual Dinner 2000
Every year, the Annual Dinner of the BCS(HKS) is a heightened event for our members and the IT professionals and leaders of Hong Kong to gather together and share their vision and wisdom on Hong Kong's IT development. This year, our Annual Dinner will be held on May 19, 2000 (Friday) at the Excelsior Hotel. It is our great honour that Dr. Hon. David K.P. Li, JP, FBCS, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bank of East Asia will join our Annual Dinner in the new millennium as the Guest of Honour. Speaker: Mr. Michael Chung, Hongkong Post
About the Talk:
In the first session of the seminar, Mr. Chung will speak on the topics of Security Concerns on Internet, Electronic Transactions Ordinance, Public Key Infrastructure, Hongkong Post e-Cert and the Usage of Hongkong Post e-Cert.
About the Speaker:
Mr. Michael Chung is the Senior Manager of Electronic Services of the Hongkong Post. He has been working with the Hongkong Post since 1974. Since January 1999, he has worked in the newly established Electronic Services Division with the duty of building up a Public Key Infrastructure and establishing the first public Certificate Authority (CA) in Hong Kong.
Session 2:
Title: Protecting e-Commerce with Public Key Infrastructure-enabled Applications
Speaker: Dr. Lucas C.K. Hui, Director, Centre for Information Security and Cryptography, The University of Hong Kong (CISC, HKU)
About the Talk:
In this session of the seminar, Dr. Hui will discuss the principles of asymmetric cryptography for the Public Key Infrastructure and how information in e-commerce transactions can be protected with Public Key Infrastructure-enabled applications using strong encryption technology.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Lucas Hui is with the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, the University of Hong Kong. He has also been the Director of the Centre for Information Security and Cryptography at HKU (CISC) since the Centre was set up by him and his colleagues. Within a year of the establishment of the CISC, his team has successfully developed Hong Kong's own Strong Cryptographic Library (SCL) and the Strong Cryptographic Library Client Suite (e-Cert edition) software with the Hongkong Post e-Cert package.

Technical Visit to the Operation Control Centre of MTR at Tsing Yi
The MTRC is a very successful corporation in providing extraordinary high-standard, efficient and reliable public transportation services to the Hong Kong community. The operation of the MTR transportation is highly automatic and supported by modern and advanced computer control systems. To provide a chance for our members to understand more about the advanced operation of MTR, we have arranged a technical visit to the Operation Control Centre of MTR at Tsing Yi on April 8, 2000 (Saturday) morning. Engineers of the MTRC will explain to our members about their systems and operations during the visit. The arrangement is as follows:
